What is VersAbility TECH?

VersAbility TECH is a regional workforce hub in Hampton Roads that provides industry-aligned training, certifications, and support services for individuals of all abilities—especially people with disabilities—who want to work in maritime, manufacturing, and related industries.
Who can enroll in VersAbility TECH programs?
People of all abilities age 18 and older are encouraged to apply. Many participants are new to maritime and manufacturing careers, and no prior experience is required for most entry-level courses. The team will work with you to understand your goals, readiness, and any accommodation needs.
Do I need a documented disability to participate?
No. VersAbility TECH serves both individuals with and without disabilities. However, a core part of our mission is to remove barriers for people with disabilities and other untapped talent, so we offer additional supports and funding guidance for those with a documented disability.
What kinds of careers do your programs prepare me for?
Our programs lead to high-demand roles in shipbuilding and repair, industrial maintenance, warehousing and logistics, cyber and IT support, building maintenance, marine coating, non-destructive testing, additive manufacturing, and related fields that underpin Hampton Roads’ economy.
Where is VersAbility TECH located?
VersAbility TECH is being developed in a fully owned facility in the Copeland Industrial Park in Hampton, Virginia, strategically positioned near major maritime and manufacturing employers.
What support services are available to students?
Participants can access vocational evaluations, career assessments, workplace readiness training, job coaching, and other wraparound supports that help with everything from soft skills to job retention. These services are designed to address barriers that often keep non-traditional job seekers out of the workforce.
How is your training model different from other programs?
VersAbility TECH uses an Employer-Integrated Training (EIT) model that brings employers directly into the training environment. Employers help shape curriculum, provide instructors, co-locate operations, and offer real-world experiences—creating a direct pipeline from training into hire-ready jobs.
Are your programs accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes. Accessibility is built into our facility design and our training model. We incorporate universal design principles, provide accommodations where needed, and coach employers on inclusive practices so that participants can succeed both in the classroom and on the job.
What courses do you currently offer or plan to offer?
Current and planned programs include Welding, Forklift & OSHA-10, abilIT / Cybersecurity, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Marine Painting & Coating, Non-Destructive Testing, Building Maintenance, Sheetmetal, Additive Manufacturing, and Logistics Specialist training.
How long do courses typically last?
Course length varies by program. Some offerings are shorter, intensive certifications, while others run for several months to allow for in-depth skills development. Each course page lists the schedule, hours, and expected time commitment.
How much do the programs cost? Is financial assistance available?
Tuition and fees differ by course. VersAbility TECH actively works with partners, funders, and employers to keep costs as low as possible and to offer grant-funded seats when available. During your inquiry and screening, a team member will explain current pricing and any financial assistance options.
How do employers partner with VersAbility TECH?
Employers can engage at multiple levels—including hosting labs on site, sponsoring classrooms, advising on curriculum, providing instructors, offering internships, and hiring graduates. This deep integration ensures training stays aligned with real workforce needs and gives employers early access to job-ready talent.
